IT/OT Convergence: What You Should Know Before Starting

Converging IT and OT requires careful consideration to make organizations secure. Not every idea is a good idea; organizations should approach new solutions based on segregation and security with well-defined architectures. This requires obtaining the knowledge and skills required to deploy and support appropriately; this includes designing a Proof of Concept with Prototype, Pilot and Production in mind that solves challenges across multiple value streams. Robust strategies and Change Management are key considerations to deploy technologies.

Key Takeaways:

  • Organizations must plan for knowledge; skills and support
  • Operational Technology has significant risks to consider
  • Operational Technology should have specific processes identified

Enabling Digital Cognition to Survive in a World of Exponential Data: A Brief Case Study

When we consider that data is projected to grow exponentially over the next few years, how we make decisions while creating knowledge and value at the rate of that data growth will be the next hurdle for business survival. Developing new dashboards may feel like transformation, but dashboards still require someone to interpret and then act on the data being analyzed… and that is done at the speed of biology. As soon as tomorrow, the strategic advantage will include the ability to make objective decisions based on the shared knowledge and collective intelligence of the entire enterprise – at speeds and accuracies that are orders of magnitudes higher than anything previously possible. It’s not just biology vs. digital, it’s your digital intelligence vs. your competitor’s digital intelligence.

Key Takeaways:

  • Companies need to focus on creating value in parity with the rate of data growth to compete in the future
  • Creating the ability to make faster and more accurate business decisions enabled by an Intelligent Decision Engine – a business companion that combines speed and complexity because that’s what computers do best, with the nuance and awareness of humans because that’s what we do best
  • Most of us use some sort of AI to help us make decisions, and so do our competitors. But if we are all making the same decisions, how do we differentiate ourselves?
